As we moved from country to country, we covered a variety of different styles from the 16th century right up to the present day.

As we ‘leapt’ from Palestrina to Panufnik, from Rutter to Rathbone, we took you on a magical tour of Christmas from around the world.

The 2019 summer concert saw a departure from our normal repertoire of mainly unaccompanied choral works. Felicitas performed Rossini’s unusually scored and highly entertaining Petite Messe Solennelle.

Herbert Howells and the Tudors: The influence of Tallis and Byrd

Music included Howells’ early setting of the Mass in the Dorian mode together with Take him, earth, for cherishing and Requiem I and II from Requiem. This was contrasted with music by William Byrd (Ave verum Corpus & Quomodo cantabimus) and Thomas Tallis (If ye love me & Sanctus from Missa Puer natus est). Howells’ Grace for 10 Downing Street was also performed.

Choral Contrasts – A 20th Anniversary Concert

Felicitasí 20th season culminated in a concert which included the first performance of a commission by Will Todd entitled Vidi speciosam. This was coupled with a setting of the same text by Victoria and other pairings, including God is gone up by Croft and Finzi, When David heard by Weelkes and Eric Whitacre, Ubi caritas by DuruflÈ and Paul Mealor, as well as settings of the Magnificat by Gibbons and Howells. The concert ended with John Rutter’s Birthday Madrigals
