Felicitas is a chamber choir performing choral concerts in Essex and in NE and Central London. Directed by Simon Winters, the choir specialises in a cappella choral music and has a wide repertoire ranging from the medieval to the modern day, both sacred and secular. Felicitas prides itself on its high musical standard as well as the excellent rapport amongst members.

Our concert for the Christmas season will contrast old and new settings of familiar Advent and Christmas texts by composers from Hildegard von Bingen in the 11th century to the present day. Music will include Poulenc’s Four Christmas Motets coupled with settings with the same texts by Palestrina, whose 500th anniversary we celebrate this year.

Chorfest - Celebrating German choral music
This concert will celebrate German composers and the rich influence they have had on choral music, throughout Europe and beyond. We will perform works spanning four centuries, from Buxtehude and J.S. Bach (who is said to have walked 300 miles to hear Buxtehude perform), to those who Bach himself influenced including Handel, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Reger.

The World in Song
In a programme with a truly international flavour, we will travel from 16th century Spain, Belgium and Italy through to more recent music from Hungary, Scandinavia, France, USA and of course the UK. Our selection, mainly secular and some with piano accompaniment, will feature music by Benjamin Britten, the 50th anniversary of whose death will be commemorated in 2026.

Felicitas is recruiting
We currently have a vacancy for a tenor and vacancies occasionally arise in other parts too. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at St Mary's Church, South Woodford, E18 (very near to the Central line) and gives three concerts each year, as well as undertaking the occasional tour, festival and CD recording. Those interested would be invited to attend a rehearsal and an audition with the choir's Musical Director, Simon Winters.
